Looking at the Bills

22 November 2009 No Comment

Today, I was looking at my bank account and at my bills and was wondering how long I could last without employment and how much I would need to make at this point for the month. Whoever tells you that the film industry is business where you make money really lied to you. And it’s even worst when you start to work once you’re out of film school.

The only way I was able to get some work, free mainly if not only, was because I had a loan. People often tell me “I can’t work in the industry like you, I have to pay the bills.” But so do I, the only difference is that I planed ahead and got myself a backup plan. Once you’re out of Film School, you need to jump in the industry right away. 95% of the people who don’t, never will. I’m totally serious about this.

So many people that were in my class or other classes that didn’t give it a shot straight after had a lot more difficulties getting back in the game. You go back home and enjoy the comfort of a stable life, you get into too much partying and forget about the industry… so many of those scenarios happen to people once they are out.

You may not get money right away, or you might (don’t think this will happen to you, big mistake), but you have to find a way to get out there and get experience. If you don’t, you won’t go anywhere in the industry.
